(UPDATE) VICE PRESIDENT Sara Duterte on Monday urged Filipinos to boost support for the education sector to enable the youth “to break free from the dangers of armed struggle” and realize their full potential.
“Let us rally behind our education sector to enable our children and youth to break free from the dangers of armed struggle so that they can realize their full potential and serve as agents of positive change in society,” she said in her Independence Day speech.
The vice president had been vocal about her resolve to help the government eradicate the country’s decades-old insurgency problem by preventing so-called communist terrorist groups from recruiting in schools.
Duterte, who concurrently serves as Education secretary, said that Filipino patriots “left a strong legacy of love for the country.
“This is our inspiration for continuing our quest for inclusive development that will carry our people out of the chains of poverty, insurgency, drug addiction and other threats to our national security,” she said.
“Let us also take this time to thank the heroes of today who continue to fight for our freedom from terrorism, criminality, corruption, and local communism, and who, to this day, remained unwavering in securing the gains of our development across public health, economy, peace and order, and governance,” she added.
“Our diversity is our strength, and we remain committed to Filipino values and aspirations founded on our shared patriotic ideals. Together, let us march to a new period of progress with optimism, courage, and unity,” she said.
