MANILA, Philippines — Three weather systems—the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), easterlies, and northeasterly wind flow—are expected to bring rain showers across the country on Friday, the state weather bureau reported.

In its morning forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the ITCZ, or the area where winds from the northern and southern hemispheres meet, is forecast to cause cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over the following areas:

  • Visayas
  • Mindanao
  • Bicol Region
  • Mimaropa

Pagasa also said cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms are expected in Aurora and Quezon due to the easterlies, or the warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

Meanwhile, the northeasterly wind flow is expected to bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.

According to Pagasa, the northeasterly wind flow is a seasonal air current from the northeast, which brings “cold and dry air” and usually signifies the start of the season of northeast monsoon or amihan.

As for the weather for Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon this Friday, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are also expected to persist due to the easterlies.

No tropical cyclones or low-pressure areas inside or outside the Philippine area of responsibility are currently being monitored.
