Mingyang Smart Energy chairman Zhang Chuanwei, chairman’s office head Wang Zhanju, Asia-Pacific president Liu Wenhao and Philippines general manager Bian Tiezhan meet with Department of Finance (DOF) Undersecretary Ma. Angela E. Ignacio and Board of Investments (BOI) executive director Bobby Fondevilla to discuss offshore wind opportunities.

Mingyang Smart Energy Group Ltd. is considering investments in Philippine port development, floating platforms and wind turbine manufacturing as it seeks to expand its offshore wind business in the country.

Mingyang chairman Zhang Chuanwei, chairman’s office head Wang Zhanju, Asia-Pacific president Liu Wenhao and Philippines general manager Bian Tiezhan met with Department of Finance (DOF) undersecretary Ma. Angela Ignacio and Board of Investments (BOI) executive director Bobby Fondevilla to discuss offshore wind opportunities.

Mingyang said it hopes to move beyond supplying original equipment manufacturer (OEM) products and establish local manufacturing operations.

The DOF said the investments, if pursued, could strengthen local manufacturing and supply chains, create jobs and support the development of offshore wind and renewable energy in the Philippines.

Mingyang has teamed up with local companies on wind power projects in the Philippines with a combined capacity of more than 500 megawatts. It has also supplied wind turbines to Vena Energy for a wind power project in the country.

The company is participating in a feasibility study for a proposed 2-gigawatt floating offshore wind project in Ilocos Norte.

The project is being developed with Buhawind Energy Northern Luzon Corp., a subsidiary of PetroGreen Energy Corp. and the Yuchengco Group of Companies, and Japan’s Kyuden International Corp.
