MANILA, Philippines — Western Luzon heads into the weekend under another round of monsoon rain, with Zambales and Bataan facing the heaviest downpours Friday and continued risks of flooding and landslides.
PAGASA said Zambales and Bataan may receive 50 to 100 millimeters of rain Friday. Localized flooding is possible in urban, low-lying and riverside areas, while landslides may occur in highly susceptible areas.
Metro Manila and much of Luzon may also experience cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon, or habagat.
The same conditions are forecast over the Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, the rest of Central Luzon and Antique.
Moderate to at times heavy rain may trigger flash floods or landslides in these areas, PAGASA said.
What to expect this weekend
The heavier rainfall may ease Saturday, with PAGASA’s latest outlook placing no area in the 50-to-100-mm rainfall range for the day.
By Sunday, however, 50 to 100 mm of rain may fall over La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan and Occidental Mindoro.
PAGASA cautioned that rainfall may be heavier over mountainous and elevated areas, while flooding and landslide impacts could be worse in places already soaked by previous rains.
Metro Manila, meanwhile, is forecast to remain cloudy with rain showers and thunderstorms through the weekend.
Rain elsewhere
The rest of Luzon, along with Aklan and Capiz, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms Friday because of the southwest monsoon.
The rest of the country may also experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mainly from localized thunderstorms.
Severe thunderstorms may still trigger localized flash floods or landslides.
Rougher seas off Luzon
Moderate to strong southwesterly winds are forecast over northern and western Luzon, with waves reaching 2.1 to 2.8 meters.
The rest of Luzon may experience light to moderate winds and seas of 1.2 to 2.5 meters.
Over the Visayas and Mindanao, winds are forecast to remain light to moderate, with waves ranging from 0.6 to 1.8 meters.
