Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso has urged residents to remain vigilant as cases of water-borne illnesses, influenza-like illnesses, leptospirosis, and dengue (WILD) continue to rise in the city.

Domagoso on Monday called on the public to observe proper hygiene and other preventive measures to help curb the spread of diseases.

“Kanina pong umaga, during our regular directional meeting, medyo nag-uptick po iyong influenza-like illness.

(This morning, during our regular meeting, we noted an uptick in influenza-like illnesses. We also have confirmed COVID-19 cases, although they remain at a manageable level and the patients are safe. However, the disease could spread if we are not careful.)

Domagoso said data presented by the Manila Health Department showed an increase in infections across the city.

From Jan. 1 to Aug. 3, the city recorded 2,105 dengue cases, 845 influenza-like illness cases, and 261 cases of severe acute respiratory infection.

The city also logged 111 leptospirosis cases, 77 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 61 typhoid fever cases, and three cholera cases.

(Wash your hands more frequently. If you are sick, isolate yourself from your family members to prevent transmission. Take vitamins, especially vitamin C. Influenza can be managed through proper care and medication.)

“Iwasan po natin iyong mga kalsadang may baha (Let us avoid flooded streets),” he added.
