Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte
Davao City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte graced the celebration of Organic Month which was held recently at the Rizal Park and recognized the efforts done by the Davao City Agriculture’s Office in the preparations that made the event a success . Mayor Duterte in his message expressed his Office strong support in promoting Organic farming to the farmers in the 182 Barangays in Davao City as it is health-friendly and safe alternative to genetically modified organisms. It is also much more ethical choice than industry farm products.
Councilor Marissa Abella, Davao City Council Committee on Food and Agriculture chair, urged small organic farmers to form cooperatives. This way, they can be certified under the Participatory Guarantee System (PGS).
The PGS will ensure better market conditions for farmers through access to knowledge and better stakeholder connections. But the system will also help expand the organic market as a whole.
