Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is giving an update on the Covid-19 vaccine certificate planned for New Zealand.

Watch here from about 1pm:

New Zealand’s “vaccine passport” is likely to be a digital Covid-19 vaccination certificate containing a QR code.

However, the certificates could be misused because there is no identification needed for the proposed system and people did not have to provide ID when getting their inoculation.

Covid-19 Response Minister Chris Hipkins said venues could ask for ID alongside a vaccine passport to mitigate the risk.

Ministry of Health officials Shayne Hunter (Deputy Director-General Data and Digital) and Michael Dreyer (General Manager, National Digital Services) will also outline how the certificate will work.

This morning, Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson said mandating vaccinations was doubtful, but vaccine certificates were likely to be introduced in the near future.
