Taking a look at coronavirus figures around the world.

Global cases stand at 22,792,000, with more than 795,000 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University tally.

The US has the highest number of infections, with more than 5.3 million, followed by Brazil (3.5 million), India (2.9 million) and Russia (944,000).

South Africa’s confirmed COVID-19 cases have surpassed 600,000, the health ministry said on Friday, even though the number of new cases has been declining since a peak in July.

The country now has 603,338 confirmed cases of the virus and 12,843 people have died, the ministry said in a statement.

France on Friday reported 4586 new coronavirus infections over the past 24 hours after the country reached a post-lockdown record the previous day.

The ministry also said the total for coronavirus deaths in the country had risen by 23 in the past 24 hours to 30,503. Total confirmed infection cases have increased to 234,400 in France.

In Spain, authorities in Madrid on Friday advised residents in areas with a high level of coronavirus cases to stay at home as the Spanish health ministry reported more than 3000 new infections for the fourth day running.

The country logged 3650 coronavirus infections in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total to 386,054. With 1199 infections, Madrid accounted for nearly a third of the new cases.

Lebanon imposed a partial lockdown for two weeks starting on Friday in an effort to counter COVID-19 infections which have doubled since the catastrophic explosion at the Beirut port.
Confirmed cases of the virus have increased from 5,417 a day after the massive blast on August 4 to more than 11,000 on Friday, leading officials to announce the lockdown.

On Friday, Lebanon’s Health Ministry tallied a record 628 confirmed new cases in the previous 24 hours, raising the total registered cases since late February to 11,580.
