Tokyo confirmed 30,970 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, logging a decrease of 2,496 cases from a week before.
The capital also reported 13 deaths linked to COVID-19, while the number of severely ill patients under its criteria fell by one from Friday to 37.
The seven-day average of new cases rose 2.5% from a week earlier to 32,479.6.
Elsewhere, Hiroshima Prefecture logged a record 4,456 new infections along with one death. Record figures were also reported in Kochi Prefecture, with 1,192 new infections, and Iwate with 1,132 new cases.
Japan saw 233,767 new cases and 215 deaths on Friday amid a seventh wave of infections.
