Metro Manila , Philippines — Storm signals are raised over areas in Luzon as Tropical Depression Dodong makes landfall in Dinapigue, Isabela early Friday morning, the state weather bureau reported.
According to its 5 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Dodong has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 55 kph.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 is raised over Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, the northern portion of Pangasinan, the northern and central portions of Aurora, and the northern and eastern portions of Polillo Islands.
PAG-ASA warns of heavy rainfall and potential flooding and landslides in those areas.
It added that wind impacts in those areas have “minimal to minor threat to life and property.”
The bureau said the southwest monsoon enhanced by Dodong will bring “significant amounts of rain” in the next three days.
It may bring gusty conditions over the following areas:
– Friday: MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, CALABARZON, Metro Manila, and other areas of Central Luzon not under any wind signal.
– Saturday: MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, CALABARZON, Zambales, Bataan, and Aurora
– Sunday: MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Cavite, Zambales, and Bataan.
Dodong is forecast to remain a tropical depression throughout its duration in the region.
PAGASA said it may reach tropical storm category by late Saturday or early Sunday as it moves out of the country’s weather monitoring area.
Dodong is the first tropical cyclone for the month of July, and the fourth this year.
PAGASA said at least three tropical storms are expected to enter the country’s weather monitoring area this month.
