A shortage of eggs on shelves has been confirmed, the latest in the deluge of supply issues in Australian supermarkets.
A Woolworths spokesperson said the marketwide supply of locally produced eggs in some regions has been impacted by reduced production on a number of farms.
“While we continue to deliver eggs to our stores regularly, customers may notice reduced availability at the moment and we thank them for their patience and understanding,” the spokesperson said.
“We’re in close contact with our suppliers and are working to increase the availability of eggs in stores as soon as possible.”
While supply is constrained, eggs continue to be delivered regularly, the supermarket said.
Woolworths notes fresh eggs at their supermarkets is 100 per cent Australian sourced.
The egg shortage comes as the fruit and vegetable supply issues continue.
A Coles spokesperson said their own egg shortage was mainly focused on NSW and WA.
“We are experiencing temporary reduced availability in our eggs range due production challenges,” the spokesperson said.
“We are working hard to restock stores as quickly as possible.”
