PHILIPPINES— Multisectoral groups from different parts of Northern Mindanao launched on Saturday “Northern Mindanao for Leni” as their support for the possible presidential bid of Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo.
“Northern Mindanao for Leni” was launched online at 5 p.m.
“Northern Mindanao for Leni” is composed of multisectoral groups from Cagayan de Oro City, Bukidnon, Camiguin, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Norte.
“We support the candidacy of VP Leni Robredo to run for [the] presidency to better our ailing country,” said Carl Cesar Rebuta, one of the convenors of “Northern Mindanao for Leni.”
“Kami’y naniniwala na tanging sa ilalim lang ng liderato ni VP Robredo magkakaroon ng tunay na pagbabago sa ating bansa (We believe that we can only achieve true change under the leadership of VP Robredo),” he said, adding that Robredo was known for her compassionate, genuine and people-oriented leadership.
Supporting the online launch were members of “Northern Mindanao For Leni,” “BPOs for Leni” and various civil society organizations.
Over the past few weeks, different volunteer and multisectoral groups from various parts of the country had also expressed support for Robredo’s possible presidential run, including the National Capital Region, the rest of Luzon and the Visayas.
Change Politics Movement (CPM), a coalition established in 2009 by various nongovernment and socio-civic groups, also urged the vice president to run for president.
The CPM believes, “She has the heart for public service and [is] the epitome of good governance.”
In a manifesto, CPM stressed that Robredo had all the qualities of a leader to lead the country in the next six years.
“May puso, maasahan, mahusay at mapagkakatiwalaan – iyan si Leni Robredo. Ganyan ang kailangan nating pinuno ng ating bansa. Si Leni Robredo ang aming kandidato para sa pangulo (Compassionate, reliable, skillful and trustworthy – that is Leni Robredo. That’s the kind of leader our country needs. Leni Robredo is our candidate for president),” the group said.
CPM said Robredo bravely faced the challenges when she was appointed as the head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council in 2016 and when she was co-chairman of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs in 2019.
