PHILIPPINES — Several 2022 hopefuls have launched their own initiatives to help in the relief efforts for communities hit by Typhoon Odette.

The tandem of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan called for relief goods and cash donations alike. Donations can be dropped off at their volunteer center in Quezon City.

Robredo also personally flew to Bohol on Friday.

Those who would want to donate through Manila Mayor Isko Moreno’s drive can also head to Quezon City.

Senator Manny Pacquiao also launched a fundraiser for the typhoon victims. Volunteer-supporters have also started packing relief goods for his drive.

 

The camp of former Senator Bongbong Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte also prepared relief packs for the calamity-struck areas.

 

Progressive coalition Laban ng Masa — which fielded the tandem of Ka Leody de Guzman and Walden Bello — said it will be “reorienting all campaign efforts” for the disaster response.

Some local officials have estimated billions of damage due to the onslaught of Typhoon Odette, which made nine landfalls in parts of the Visayas and Mindanao. Disaster management officials, meanwhile, are still verifying reports on casualties.
