The Department of Agriculture (DA) said at least P31.5 million smuggled frozen meat products from China were confiscated at the Manila International Container Port (MICP).

Agriculture Assistant Secretary for Inspectorate and Enforcement James Layug said that his office received information on Dec. 13, 2022, on the suspicious shipment at the MICP.

Layug said based on the inspection of the members of the DA and the Bureau of Customs, the three forty-footer container vans contained banned frozen pork and chicken products but were declared as frozen prawn balls.

The products were registered under the name of Victory JM Enterprise.

“This may be considered as technical smuggling under the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act of 2016 (Republic Act 10845),” Layug said.
