Prop Kane Evans and NZ Warriors have officially parted ways.
The NRL club has announced it had released the Australian forward from the final year of his contract, allowing him to pursue a deal in the UK Super League.
Evans, 29, was signed from Parramatta Eels on a two-year deal, but struggled to work his way into the rotation, with onfield indiscretions ultimately overshadowing any impact he had as a player for the Warriors.
Last season, he gained notoriety during the Warriors’ fiery clash with Cronulla Sharks, where he was sin-binned twice, after retaliating to Sharks centre Will Chambers’ provocations, including a blatant punch.
Two rounds earlier, Evans was fined $5000 by the NRL for an expletive comment written on his wrist, as he sat on the bench as the 18th man against Penrith Panthers.
He rounded out his troubled season by copping a five-match ban for his involvement in the brawl at the end of the spiteful final-round match against Gold Coast Titans, where he was also found guilty of a dangerous contact charge.
“By mutual agreement, we’ve parted ways amicably to enable Kane to pursue opportunities in the Super League,” says Warriors recruitment manager Peter O’Sullivan.
“We thank Kane for the contribution he has made this season and wish him all the best for his future in England.”
Evans finishes with 14 appearances for the Warriors.
