A man has been arrested after a firearms incident in the Auckland suburb of Mt Roskill early Saturday morning.

Police received calls from concerned members of the public shortly after 4am regarding a shot being fired at an address on McCullough Ave.

After a “swift response” by armed officers, who worked with police dogs, the Eagle helicopter and investigations staff, a man was subsequently arrested and charged with unlawfully possessing a firearm, said Detective Senior Sergeant Glenn Baldwin.

The 36-year-old is due to appear in Auckland District Court on February 9.

Police said no one was injured in the incident, though a firearm and ammunition was recovered from the property.

“Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this incident,” said Det Snr Sgt Baldwin.

“We are aware of the ongoing public concern regarding recent events in this area.

“Police will maintain a presence in this area while we continue to investigate a previous firearms incident that occurred on 19 January.”

Anyone with any information on either incident is asked to contact the Auckland City Crime Squad on 09 302 6557, or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
