MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) being monitored inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) has a low chance of developing into a tropical depression but it will bring rains over parts of the country on Thursday, according to the state weather bureau.
In its 5 a.m. weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the LPA was last located 125 kilometers east of Puerto Princesa, Palawan, as of 3 a.m.
Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badrina said the LPA would bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Visayas, Southern Luzon and much of Mindanao, particularly Northern Mindanao, the Zamboanga Peninsula and Caraga.
“This will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms. Visayas, Southern Luzon, a huge portion of Mindanao, especially Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Caraga Region have a high chance of seeing rains,” Badrina reported.
Large portion of Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Bicol Region, Batangas, and Quezon will experience cloudy skies, scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the LPA.
As the LPA moves westward in the coming days, the southwest monsoon or habagat will prevail once again over Palawan, Mimaropa, and parts of Visayas and Mindanao, he said.
Badrina also said that Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Northern Luzon, and the rest of Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with chances of thunderstorms.
The LPA will also bring cloudy skies and scattered rains and thunderstorms over huge portions of Visayas and Mindanao.
Meanwhile, Badrina shared that Tropical Storm Dujuan, monitored outside the PAR, has a low chance of entering the country and is not seen to directly affect the country. It was last estimated 2,970 kilometers east of Northern Luzon as of 3 a.m.
