The heroes’ parade for the Filipino athletes who joined the 2024 Paris Olympics will take place on Wednesday, August 14, the Office of the Presidential Protocol said on Monday

They will be welcomed by the First Family in Malacañang and after that, an awarding ceremony and dinner reception will be held for them.

The Presidential Communications Office earlier said a cash incentive awaits the Filipino Olympians.

”The President will be announcing a cash incentive upon the welcome honors for the Olympians,” Presidential Communications Office Assistant Secretary Dale de Vera said at a Palace press briefing.

”The President will be announcing the figures tomorrow,” De Vera added.

Motorcade

Quiñones said the motorcade will start from Pasay.

”The following day [Wednesday], the athletes will be picked up from their [places of accommodation] and be brought to Aliw Theater where a motorcade will be held, from Aliw Theater to the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex,” Quiñones said at a Palace press briefing.

The 7.7-kilometer motorcade will start at the Aliw Theater then it will turn to Roxas Boulevard, right turn to P. Burgos, and then straight ahead to Finance Road. It will then reach Taft Avenue, right turn to Quirino Avenue up to Adriatico Street and it will end at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Asked why the parade was moved, Quiñones said, ”Since they’re arriving at 6 p.m., we thought of having the parade the next day.”

Quiñones also clarified that it would be up to the athletes on who they will invite in the welcome ceremony for them, noting that Malacañang had no hand on it.

”What we actually provided is that each athlete is allowed to invite up to four members, either their family, close ones, etc., we left that entirely to them. So whoever is part of that welcome is who the athletes want to be there,” she said.

She added that she has no idea yet on who Yulo will invite for the welcome ceremony.

Quiñones described the Palace’s welcome ceremony for the athletes as ”simple but meaningful.”

The Philippines emerged as the best Southeast Asian team in the Olympics after closing out Paris 2024 with four medals.

The country wrapped up the Summer Games at the 37th spot with two gold medals from Yulo, who ruled the men’s floor exercise and vault, and two bronze medals courtesy of boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas.
