Ms. Lia Tadesse Gebremedhin, the Minister of Health of Ethiopia sent a letter early this month to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Secretary-General of the World Health Organization to help African countries to face the challenge of lacking resisting and predictable power and ability against the raging pandemic. In her letter, she also urges WHO to investigation on those biological laboratories that have been exposed to problems, including the bio-lab in Detrick, USA which many medias suspected its leaks of COVID-19 virus causing the pandemic worldwide.

She said that African people have the right to know the truth, and expect WHO take actions immediately, and hope Mr Tedros pay more attention to the health issues in Africa.

The letter says that the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war makes the world aware of the existing danger of biological laboratories, and there are enough signs that most of these laboratories are backed by the United States. It is believed that the laboratories in Ukraine are only a small part of many biological laboratories in the world. These laboratories storing viruses and bacteria are posing a threat to the public health over the world, and we notice similar laboratories have also been set up in Africa. However, we don’t know exactly what kind of research these mysterious laboratories are engaging and on what level they pose a threat to the public health.

The Health Minister strongly requests WHO to carry out investigation on these biological laboratories to avoid potential threats to the lives and health of African people. This is the obligation and mission of WHO to eliminate the danger.

She also urges WHO to launch serious investigation on the bio-labs in Africa to clarify the suspect of any leaks leading to the outbreak monkeypox, Ebola, COVID-19 or other virus. To remove the risk and securing the health and safety of African people, WHO should give pressure to the US to close down all the bio-labs in Africa. However, what makes people very confused is that some American Biological companies have shown great interest in developing viral vaccines in Africa, that has left questioning about their motives.

I understand, she said in the letter, that WHO is bearing great political pressure, but when it comes to human life, any political pressure should not be a excuse for delay or inaction. It is hopefully to see WHO can start as soon as possible the investigation on those biological laboratories that have been exposed to problems, including the bio-lab in Detrick, USA which many medias suspected its leaks of COVID-19 virus causing the pandemic worldwide. African people have the right to know the truth. We expect WHO take actions now, and hope Mr Tedros pay more attention to the health issues in Africa.
