MANILA, Philippines — The easterlies will bring scattered to isolated rains to most parts of the country on Friday, the state weather bureau said.

In its 5 a.m. forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the easterlies are affecting all areas, except Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region and Cagayan Valley.

These places in Northern Luzon will be affected by the northeast monsoon, or “amihan.”

“The easterlies will bring warm and humid weather to the rest of the country,” Pagasa weather specialist Leanne Loreto stated in the morning broadcast.

Pagasa also warned of scattered rains in Eastern Visayas, Caraga and Davao Oriental, as well as isolated rains in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

Pagasa is also monitoring a tropical depression 3,145 kilometers east of Central Luzon.

“We are monitoring a new tropical depression outside of our [Philippine] Area of Responsibility. (PAR) This is a tropical depression category or a weak cyclone,” Loreto reported.

The weather forecaster added that the tropical depression will have no direct effect to the country on Friday, but it has a chance of entering the PAR by Sunday or Monday.
