In a statement issued Monday, Jan. 23, DepEd said that it will “launch a new call to action for all Filipinos” anchored on Basic Education Report (BER) 2023 to be conducted by the end of this month.

“It’s really to give the public an idea of the steps that this administration will take and also the direction of this administration towards resolving issues in basic education,” DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa said.

DepEd is set to conduct BER on Jan. 30. It will be delivered by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte.

The conduct of the BER 2023, DepEd said, aims to “present current challenges and the sector priorities of the agency.”

“Gusto natin ilahad sa general public kung ano talaga ‘yong current state of education kasi po lagi natin naririnig na ang daming challenges ng basic education (We want to present to the general public what the current state of education really is because we always hear about the many challenges of basic education),” Poa said.

Through the BER 2023, Poa said that DepEd will identify and present to the public what are the specific challenges of the country’s basic education.

“Aside from that, siyempre pagkalatag natin ng challenges, ang Department po natin ay maglulunsad ng Education Agenda. Tinutukoy nito ang mga plans and initiatives natin upang maresolba ‘yong mga challenges na ito (Aside from that, of course we will identifying the challenges, our Department will launch an Education Agenda. It will contain our plans and initiatives to resolve these challenges),” Poa said.
