PHILIPPINES— The low pressure area (LPA) spotted northeast of Batanes has developed into Tropical Depression “Gorio,” the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Wednesday.
“Gorio” was spotted 785 kilometers northeast of the town of Itbayat in Batanes.
Packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness up to 70kph, the tropical depression is moving east-northeast at 20kph, the weather bureau said.
“It is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm in the next 12 hours and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday morning,” the weather agency said.
Occasional rains may prevail in Metro Manila, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro and northern Palawan including Calamian and Kalayaan Islands.
