MANILA, Philippines — Rey Joseph Nieto, widely known online as “Thinking Pinoy,” has been appointed as assistant secretary at the Office of the Cabinet Secretary.
His appointment letter, dated Sept. 1, was confirmed to reporters by Presidential Communications Office Dave Gomez on Wednesday.
Nieto initially gained popularity as a prominent pro-Duterte blogger during the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte, he later transitioned to supporting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
Aside from blogging, he is also a columnist at the Manila Bulletin and briefly served as a consultant and head of strategic communications for the Office of the Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs under the Department of Foreign Affairs in 2017.
In a social media post, Nieto said he is “grateful and a little scared” for his new role.
He is yet to take his oath of office.
“I am truly grateful for the opportunity to serve the Filipino people, but I am also aware that this is a difficult time for the country,” the post read.
