The Supreme Court (SC) announced the suspension of court operations in several areas on Tuesday, Sept. 1, due to local special non-working holidays and scheduled power interruptions.
All courts in Baguio City, Benguet, were suspended in observance of Baguio Charter Day, which is celebrated every Sept. 1 as a special non-working holiday in the city.
Under Republic Act No. 6710, Baguio commemorates its founding as a chartered city in 1909.
Court operations were also suspended in all courts in Bukidnon and the 5th Municipal Circuit Trial Court of Jasaan-Claveria, Misamis Oriental, in observance of their respective local special non-working day celebrations.
Bukidnon observes its foundation day, or “Araw ng Bukidnon,” while Jasaan, Misamis Oriental, celebrates its founding anniversary, known as “Araw ng Jasaan.”
Meanwhile, court operations in Guagua, Sta. Rita and Sasmuan, Pampanga, as well as the Municipal Trial Court in Bacolor, Pampanga, were suspended due to scheduled power interruptions, according to an advisory issued by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines and Pampanga II Electric Cooperative Inc. and cited by the SC.
The power interruption in Guagua, Sasmuan and Sta. Rita was scheduled from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. to allow substation works and maintenance, affecting portions of the three municipalities.
In Bacolor, the power interruption was also scheduled from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. to facilitate substation and sub-transmission line works and maintenance, as well as the re-energization of power circuit breakers affecting Barangay Sta. Ines.
Despite the suspensions, a skeleton workforce will remain in place to act on urgent requests for bail, orders of release and other similar reliefs.
