MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has submitted the P7.2-trillion National Expenditure Program (NEP) for 2027 to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Palace Press Officer Claire Castro said on Monday.
The NEP will be formally transmitted to Congress on Tuesday, Aug. 11.
“Layunin nitong gawing mas kapaki-pakinabang ang bawat pisong pampublikong pondo sa pamamagitan ng mas mahusay na serbisyo at mas maraming oportunidad para sa mga Pilipino (The goal is to maximize the value of every peso of public funds through better services and more opportunities for Filipinos),” she added.
The Marcos Cabinet agreed upon the then-undisclosed NEP for 2027 last July 10.
The approved amount of P7.2 trillion is in line with the amount Marcos proposed to Congress when the legislature convenes for its second regular session. It is P407 billion, or 6 percent, higher than the P6.793-trillion national budget for 2026.
In a press release, the DBM said the 2027 NEP “puts the Filipino people at the heart of the government’s spending priorities—directing public resources toward programs and investments that create opportunities, strengthen communities, and improve the lives of Filipinos.”
More than funding government programs, the agency descrived the fund is an investment in Filipinos’ education and health, livelihoods and security, and capacity to build better lives for themselves and their families. /jpv /mr
