The Senate and House of Representatives on Monday suspended on-site work and legislative sessions as heavy rains and flooding from the southwest monsoon or “habagat” continued to affect Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.
The Senate implemented a work-from-home (WFH) arrangement and postponed the continuation of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment trial due to inclement weather, Senate President Win Gatchalian said.
“The Senate will be under WFH setup today,” Gatchalian said.
“No trial and session today as well,” he added.
Proceedings are expected to resume once on-site sessions are allowed to proceed.
Malacañang earlier announced the suspension of face-to-face classes and work in government offices on Aug. 10 due to the enhanced southwest monsoon.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said monsoon rains would continue to affect Luzon and Western Visayas this week.
Meanwhile, the House of Representatives also implemented a WFH arrangement for its personnel and canceled its scheduled plenary session due to heavy rainfall and flooding.
House Secretary General Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil issued the advisory Monday morning as inclement weather and flooding continued to affect Metro Manila and other parts of Luzon.
“In view of the heavy rainfall and flooding brought about by the southwest monsoon, a work-from-home arrangement shall be implemented in the House of Representatives today, 10 August 2026,” Velicaria-Garafil said.
“The Plenary Session scheduled for today is likewise cancelled and shall resume tomorrow, Tuesday, 11 August 2026,” she added.
The WFH arrangement was intended to ensure the safety of House personnel amid flooding and hazardous travel conditions caused by the continued rains.
