Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Theresa Lazaro met with newly appointed Chinese Ambassador Jing Quan to discuss Manila-Beijing relations and areas of mutual interest.
In a status update on X posted on Wednesday evening, Lazaro said she welcomed the new Chinese envoy. He arrived in Manila last Saturday, December 6.
“I welcomed H.E. Jing Quan, China’s Ambassador-designate, as he begins his mission here in the Philippines. We discussed Philippines-China ties and our shared interest in dialogue, stability, and expanded cooperation in trade and people-to-people exchanges,” she said.
For its part, the Chinese Embassy in Manila announced that Jing paid a courtesy call on Lazaro, noting that he also presented his credentials.
“On December 10, Chinese Ambassador-designate to the Philippines Jing Quan paid a courtesy call on Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines Maria Theresa Lazaro,” it said.
“Ambassador-designate Jing Quan presented an open copy of credentials to the Philippine Assistant Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Director-General of Protocol Ariel Rodelas Peñaranda on December 9 after arriving in Manila on December 6,” the Chinese Embassy added.
Jing previously served as the Deputy Chief of Mission of the People’s Republic of China in Washington, D.C. He succeeded Huang Xilian, who became China’s ambassador to the Philippines from December 2019 to September this year.
