The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) confirmed on Sunday the presence of People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels in the vicinity of the 4th Multilateral Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCCA) that took place over the weekend.

AFP Spokesperson Colonel Margareth Padilla stated that they closely monitored the Chinese ships

However, she noted that the MCCA proceeded as planned without any interference, ensuring the safety of participating countries’ vessels through established protocols.

“While there were observations of PLAN vessels tailing during the MCCA, no reports were received regarding the conduct of the alleged Chinese military exercise,” Padilla told reporters.

The AFP views the MCCA as a pivotal demonstration of international cooperation, which strengthens partnerships and enhances the capabilities of allied nations.

“This collaborative approach is essential in maintaining a safe and secure maritime environment in the region,” she added.

The recent MCCA aimed to bolster effective presence in the West Philippine Sea and according to Padilla, they will continue to actively engage with regional and international partners, fostering alliances through joint exercises, information sharing, and capacity-building initiatives.

“The 4th MMCA was completed successfully, with all planned activities and scenarios executed without any incidents. Participating countries enhanced their cooperation and interoperability in a manner consistent with international law,” she concluded.
