There have been 7605 new cases of Covid-19 in the community and a further 41 deaths with the virus, the Ministry of Health reports.

The seven day rolling average of community cases is at 7618, down significantly from 8915 this time last week.

In today’s statement, the Ministry said there were 799 people in hospital with the virus, including 25 in ICU.

It said there have now been 1479 deaths confirmed as attributable to Covid-19. The average increase in deaths each day attributable to the coronavirus over the past seven days is now 18.

Of 41 people whose deaths were reported today, 14 were from Auckland region, three were from Waikato, two were from Bay of Plenty, three were from Lakes, two were from Hawke’s Bay, one was from Taranaki, two were from MidCentral, two were from Whanganui, two were from Wellington region, seven were from Canterbury, three were from Southern.

One was in their 50s, one was in their 60s, eight were in their 70s, 12 were in their 80s and 19 were aged over 90. Twenty-two were women and 19 were men.

On Thursday, there were 7627 new cases of Covid-19 and 827 hospitalisations.

There has now been a total of 1,592,893 cases of Covid-19 recorded in New Zealand.
