The Philippines logged 291 new cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) on Saturday and the lowest number of those active in 2021 at 9,924, according to the Department of Health (DoH).
The last time that the lowest number of active cases was recorded was on May 24, 2020 at 9,918.
Of the active cases, 3,854 are mild, 501 are asymptomatic, 3,388 are moderate, 1,799 are severe and 382 are critical.
Of the 35,527 samples that were tested on December 16, only 350 or 0.9 percent were found positive.
Total recoveries are at 2.777 million, or 97.9 percent of the 2.8 million overall cases.
The death toll is at 50,675, including 106 new fatalities.
Occupancy rate for beds for Covid-19 patients in the intensive care units (ICUs) is at 24 percent in Metro Manila and 22 percent nationwide.
